The nature reserve "Brucherbierg-Lalléngerbierg" covers an area of approximately 267 hectares between the municipalities Schifflange, Kayl and Esch-sur-Alzette.
After the open cast mining stopped in 1974, the territory was left to itself and resembled a lunar landscape with bright red soil. After this, nature took over again and transformed the area into a unique biotope.
The rocky soils are now covered with dry grasslands, and you will get to see numerous orchids as well ass over 500 different species of butterflies. The former entrances to the underground mines are now bat habitats.
On different signed paths, you can explore this exceptional area either by foot or by bike/mountain bike. Please do not forget that dogs are to be kept on a lead at all times.
